Bumblebee is an upcoming American science fiction film directed by Travis Knight and written by Christina Hodson. It is centered around the titular character and a prequel to the events of the Transformers film series. The film stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Drucker, Kenneth Choi, Gracie Dzienny, Rachel Crow and Pamela Adlon. Principal photography on the film began on July 31, 2017 in Los Angeles and San Francisco, California.

This is the first film in the live-action Transformers series not to be directed by Michael Bay, though he will act as producer, and is scheduled to be released on December 21, 2018.

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee the Autobot seeks refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. Charlie, on the brink of turning 18 years old and trying to find her place in the world, soon discovers the battle-scarred and broken Bumblebee. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns that this is no ordinary yellow Volkswagen.
